From 30 September to 6 October 2019, members of Girlguiding tackled plastic pollution because in 2018 Future Girl identified that Girlguiding members were worried about the damage it’s causing to our planet and the animals we share it with.
Girls and young women across Durham South became planet protectors as we want to make big change, by coming together to tackle plastic pollution. Within unit meetings Girlguiding members found out about plastic pollution, deposit return schemes, created large plastic sculptures to show the scale of our plastic waste as well as thought about their #PlasticPromise.
We’re taking action to recycle more and use less plastic and we are asking our governments to listen to girls’ voices when creating environmental policies including plans for a deposit return scheme.
