Young Members

Girlguiding in Durham South gives girls and young women, aged between 5 and 18, the opportunity for fun, adventure and the space to discover their potential. A programme encompassing six key themes is followed from Rainbows through to Rangers. This programme gives members a pathway to develop a wide range of skills.

The key themes at the centre of our programme help girls develop by:

Enabling girls to learn about themselves by exploring what they enjoy, building their confidence and discovering how feelings affect the way we behave.

Giving girls a space to develop their creativity in multiple ways. From storytelling to building new inventions and everything in between.

Assisting girls in learning how to stay healthy both mentally and physically and how to help others when they are hurt.

Supporting girls in overcoming fears and trying new things, having adventures and learning survival skills.

Empowering girls to make a positive impact on the world around them by thinking about what is important to them.

Helping girls advance life skills and explore their potential by learning about aspects such as money, DIY and careers.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides can find the badge criteria in their Badge Books, whereas Ranger badge criteria is all available on the Badge Finder.

Young Leaders

Girls aged between 14 and 18 can also become Young Leaders working with Rainbows, Brownies or Guides. Young Leaders do not also have to be Rangers and there is a Young Leader uniform but if girls hold both roles, the Ranger uniform can be worn for both.

Young Leaders can work on the Young Leader Qualification from the age of fourteen and can choose to do the Adult Leader Qualification from the age of sixteen.
