Adult Members

No matter how much time you have to give, there is an opportunity for you within Girlguiding Durham South!

There are a wide range of roles available within Girlguiding to suit you. Whether you have been a member since Rainbows or have just discovered us; you can find a place in our team of inspirational women.

Volunteering with Girlguiding also creates opportunities for adventure, learning and socialising with a large network of like-minded women.

Volunteering with girls at unit meetings

This is the core of Girlguiding and without our adult volunteers we couldn’t run. Depending on how much time you can commit, there is a role to suit you.

Unit helpers work alongside other volunteers to deliver the Girlguiding programme, there is no responsibility of planning in this role, but you’ll be the extra pair of hands needed to make guiding happen.

Assistant leaders help to plan and deliver unit meetings, events and activities for girls with the support of the unit leader.

Unit leaders are role models for girls and young women while having fun along the way. As a unit leader you’ll run the unit, lead a team of volunteers and plan and deliver an amazing programme. You will be supported to complete our Leadership Qualification and have training on everything you need from programme planning to safeguarding.

Supporting Roles

We don’t just need volunteers to run our unit meeting, we also have a network of supporting members that help guiding happen behind the scenes. There are roles to fit everyone’s individual skills. Secretary, treasurer, photographer, running social media channels and many more.

Specialist Roles

If you are already involved in guiding, there are opportunities to progress into specialist roles at higher levels. Roles in District, Division, County, Region or Nationally as trainers, commissioners, coordinators and advisers.
