We all love badges but Lucy possibly tops us all! Lucy, of the 8th Darlington Rainbows, has earned the top award as a Rainbow by getting her Rainbows Gold award. To earn this, Lucy gained all 6 of the Rainbows Theme awards, but not by just completing 1 interest badge from each theme, she completed every single interest badge available!
Lucy has done all sorts towards her badges, completing the mini Great North Run for her Agility badge, writing book reviews for her Book Lover badge, taking walks in the woods for her Healthy Mind badge and becoming a recycling superhero complete with outfit and poster for her Recycling badge.
“Lucy has been doing badges again – I think her favourite to date is the construction badge. She has been desperate to make her ‘water park’ for ages.
“She chose a zoo theme so had a giraffe slide and palm tree slide. She also made extra palm trees using leaves and twigs from Broken Scar and also a rock pool – she designed it on paper, found/collected what she needed and then set to work. She even got Lego characters so she could test it worked at the end. We discussed the triangles (trusses) and built a den, which she then took her teddies in to play games with!” – Lucy’s Mum, Dani
To gain her Rainbows Gold Award, after gaining the Theme awards, Lucy needed to complete three challenges: make her Rainbow Promise, which she had already done at start of her Rainbow journey; find out about Brownies, Lucy did some research at home as well as us finding out more in our unit; and finally, reflect on her time at Rainbows.
Lucy put together a wonderful picture capturing all her favourite things; some of her highlights were our recent Rainbow Sleepover, completing a ‘The Smeds and the Smoos’ challenge badge; playing games – like Please Mr. Crocodile and making crafts.
We are so immensely proud of Lucy and hope that her love of badges continues as she starts her new adventures at Brownies in the new year.
