World Thinking Day Celebration 23.02.2019

Girlguiding Durham South held a service in Durham Cathedral on Saturday 23rd February to “Celebrate Friendship”. This was to celebrate World Thinking day – the birthday of our founders Lord and Lady Baden Powell. World Thinking day is traditionally celebrated all over the world by girl guides and girl scouts.

In attendance were the Lord Lieutenant of Durham- Mrs Susan Snowdon, the Mayor of Darlington, the Mayor of Durham, as well as the Chief Commissioner for NEE, and County Commissioners from Northumberland, Durham North and North Yorkshire North East.

A small choir led by Rhiannon and a string quartet welcomed the congregation with  a selection of campfire songs from around the world. The service was attended by Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Senior Section, Leaders and Trefoil from across the County, and many played a part in the service. The message was led by Rev Sheila Bamber who reinforced the message of friendship, especially through Guiding. During the service all sections had the opportunity to renew their promise.
The collection taken at the start of the service will be shared between the work of the Cathedral and WAGGGS.
